About Me
Juan Plasencia (Valencia, 1975) is a Spanish documentary photographer and technical coordinator at the Laboratory of Communication Sciences (LabCom) at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón. He holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication and a Master’s in New Trends and Innovation in Communication, both from Universitat Jaume I, along with advanced photographic and audiovisual training from institutions in Valencia.
His work focuses on long-form documentary storytelling rooted in historical memory, social change, and the transformation of cultural identities across Spain, Peru, France, and Romania. He has published in national media such as XLSemanal, 7K Zazpika, El Dominical, and ARA, and has collaborated with agencies like Zoom and the Photographic Social Vision collective.
Plasencia has received several awards and grants, including a national photography prize from Agencia EFE and the Generalitat Valenciana, and a public grant for his work on the Spanish anti-Franco guerrilla resistance. His reportages —such as Fila Siete, El legado de la guerrilla, Reîntâlnire, and Spanish Moon— have been exhibited in leading cultural centers, museums, and film festivals across Spain.
Alongside his photographic work, he has taught digital photography and image editing in academic settings and continues to combine creative production with technical coordination at the university.
